September 21, 2011 TSXV – ZON
Zonte Metals Inc. (TSXV-ZON) (the “Corporation” or “Zonte”) is pleased to report it has identified a new target area from soil geochemistry which lies 4.5 kilometres to the northwest of the main Pit Target area.
A recent soil sampling program was carried out northwest of the Pit Target area following up on historic soil and till sampling programs dating back as far as the late 1980’s. Sampling by Zonte was designed as a cursory first pass to test the potential in this area. The soil geochemistry data was successful in identifying a large arsenic-in-soil anomaly with intermittent elevated gold-in- soils. Two soil lines were completed in this area and on the southern line the arsenic-in-soil anomaly is nearly 500 metres in width with arsenic values up 1259 ppm. The northern line also displayed elevated arsenic and gold, with the anomaly at one location sitting 660 metres along strike from the anomaly on the southern line. Gold values were slightly anomalous and are consistent with values identified from the soil sampling over known mineralized zones in the Pit Target area, where arsenic appears most effective for identifying mineralization associated with bedrock as gold is only intermittently elevated. This target area will be referred to as the 4.5NW Target.
The 4.5NW Target area is open along strike and crews will infill and expand the soil sampling coverage to the north and south. Several other anomalies were identified between this area and the Pit Target area which require additional follow-up to assess the potential of these zones. Additional information and an image of the arsenic-in-soil anomaly can be found on the website at http://www.zontemetals.com/.
Update on the Pit Target
As previously noted the Corporation has identified two large induced polarization geophysical anomalies in the Pit Target area. The anomalies called the Western and Eastern Geophysical Anomalies are 1200 metres in strike length and up to 150 metres in width; and 600 to 700 metres in strike length and up to 120 metres in width, respectively. In both cases the anomalies are coincident with bedrock gold and arsenic mineralization exposed in the bottom of an operating gravel pit. On May 25, 2011 Zonte press released soil data outlining a third anomaly identified from arsenic-in-soils which is parallel and sits on the southern side of the Eastern Geophysical Anomaly. This third anomaly, measuring 700 metres in strike length and up to 100 metres in width, is also coincident with gold in bedrock which was identified along the access road to the gravel pit. Zonte has applied for a permit to trench along this and several other geochemical anomalies at which time it will then be able to define drill targets for the first phase drill program. The upcoming drill program will test the geophysical anomalies, the third arsenic-in-soil anomaly and any other target that merits drilling once the trenching has been completed.
Terry Christopher, President and CEO comments “After compiling historical data a number of interesting areas have emerged. Additional exploration is underway in these newly defined areas. The 4.5NW Target area was identified in an area where Noranda found elevated gold levels in till sampling in the late 1980’s and is located near a large thrust structure making it a high priority target for Zonte.”
