McConnells Jest: Yukon

The McConnell’s Jest project is located in the Yukon Territory about 65 km northeast of the town of Mayo. The project is composed of 172 contiguous quartz claims covering approximately 3,371 hectares and is accessible by a helicopter, trails and a road on the eastern edge of the property.

The project is located within the Tintina Gold Belt which stretches across Alaska and the Yukon and is host to a significant number of large deposits including Donlin Creek (32 Moz Au), Dublin Gulch (6.3 Moz) and Fort Knox (4.7 Moz) with the latter two classified as Intrusion Related Gold Deposits. McConnell’s Jest is adjacent and east of the Dublin Gulch Project of Victoria Gold, where Victoria has achieved commercial production at the Eagle mine which has a 3.3Moz a reserve and forecasted to produce on average 200,000 ounces of gold per year for 10 years at an all-in sustaining cost of USD $950-$1100/oz Au over H2 2020 (Victoria Gold News Release).

Prior to 2017 the project seen limited exploration including soil and rock sampling. Field exploration identified three targets that were drilled this summer and a number of other targets that remain to be examined explored. The map below illustrates those targets.

Much of the pluton is covered or poorly exposed and the majority of exploration and all the drilling during the summer of 2017 focused on the Hill – Two Four – Pink Mountain target areas. Drilling on the Two Four target (illustrated in more detail below) successfully intersected intrusion related gold mineralization over significant lengths as illustrated in the table below.

Table of Drill Results

Drill Hole  From (m)  To (m) Interval (m)  Gold (g/t Au)
MJ-03 10.71 19.04 8.33 0.20
 and 107.49 214.27 106.78 0.18
including 107.49 189.30 81.81 0.20
MJ-04 19.39 81.82 62.43 0.27
 including 45.80 81.82 32.02 0.49
 including 61.37 81.82 20.45 0.72
 and 112.90 142.50 29.60 0.53
 including 122.22 142.50 20.28 0.69
 including 134.49 142.50 8.01 1.13

Note; MJ-04 was drilled to 148m.

Drilling intersected a series of quartz-arsenopyrite veins in both holes, with the bottom part of hole MJ-04 showing high relative portions of pyrite compared to other mineralized zones.

The picture above is a pyrite-arsenopyrite-quartz vein at 141.50 metres in MJ-04.

Exploration beyond the focus area this summer was successful in identifying two additional targets called the Tea Zone and J Z0ne.

The Tea Zone was discovered during one field day where a number of mineralized veins were sampled. One of the veins returned 129 g/t Au and two others returned 0.92 g/t and 2.72 g/t Au. The sampled veins sit on the eastern edge of a large multi-element soil anomaly which measures 390m by +200m. No exploration was completed within this anomaly beyond the sampled veins.

The J Zone is about 1.3km north of Pink Mountain and is characterized by a heavily fracture portion of the pluton hosting arsenopyrite veins. The zone sits in a 150m wide and 500m long apparent structural zone, which is for the most part soil covered. Grades at J Zone Target range from anomalous to 5.35 g/t Au.

A number of other targets identified from historic sampling remain to be explored. One of the largest is called Big Quartz. This target was identified in soil geochem profiles which outlined a multi-element target measuring 400 by 500m. The target is potentially open to the south as the southern boundary of the target is observed on the southern most soil line.

Recent exploration by Victoria gold has discovered gold mineralization at the Raven and Nugget targets sitting about 5 km to the west of the Victoria/Zonte border. Like Zonte’s intrusion the Raven and Nugget discoveries are in a granodiorite stock. Victoria has a significant exploration program for this summer. Check back for additional updates.
